Organisers of the annual Camborne Music Festival are appealing to businesses across Cornwall to support this years’ event.

The festival, which started in 1970, is run entirely by volunteers and attracts amateur competitors from all over the south west who come to perform in a wide variety of classes and ages.

To commemorate the start of World War One, this year sees the addition of a new vocal class especially for adults who can sing any song from any year of the war.

Secretary, Wendy Curnow, said: “This years’ festival is a landmark year. Our 45th anniversary coincides with the centenary of the outbreak of World War One and we are expecting up to 300 performers to descend on Camborne to compete.”

The weeklong festival takes place at Camborne Centenary Church from Monday, November 10 until Friday, November 15 with the official opening on Tuesday, November 11 at 6:30 pm.

Chairman of BID Camborne, George Le Hunte, added:  “Camborne Music Festival is really important to the grounding and encouragement of musicians, both young and not so young.

“Staging the Festival week costs more each year which means sponsors, patrons, and advertisers are vitally important to making this Festival the success that it is.”
