A service supporting disabled and older people to live independently in their own homes has been awarded £250k to continue its work.

Devon & Cornwall Housing Association’s Handyperson Service has been awarded the funding by Cornwall Council to extend its reach.

The service in mid and west Cornwall enables a team of Handypeople to carry out odd jobs in clients’ homes at a subsidised and affordable rate.

The funding has created five new jobs, supply three new vans and enable the Handyperson Service to support 1,650 new clients up until March 2011.

David Davies, home improvement agency manager, said: “This is excellent news for both our existing clients and other vulnerable people in the community who need our support.

“We know from our clients that to carry out even the smallest job can have a massive impact on an individual’s quality of life.”

Devon & Cornwall Housing Association’s Handyperson Service is funded by Cornwall Council’s Supporting People programme.
