Retailers in Camborne are being encouraged to sign up to a trial of the pioneering Loyalty Card scheme planned for the area.

The pilot scheme, being launched on Monday November 17, will give businesses the opportunity to trial the card and see the benefits it can bring, before it goes live in Camborne, Pool and Redruth.

The area will be the first in the country to launch the project, which is planned to go live early next year. In partnership with The Civic Trust, an independent nationwide charity, the ‘My Heart of Cornwall’ card will offer shoppers discounts with participating retailers and give a rebate on shopping.

For the trial period retailers in Camborne can sign up to the scheme for free and 1,000 cards will be available to shoppers, on a first come first serve basis.

The trial card, which will be swiped at point of purchase, will offer shoppers the same incentives as the one being launched next year.

Chairman of Camborne Chamber of Commerce, George Le Hunte, said: “The Loyalty Card is a great scheme and I’ll be encouraging as many retailers in Camborne to be part of the trial.  I think it will be fantastic when it goes live across the whole CPR area next year.”

George added: “At a time of some financial uncertainty, promoting the value of shopping locally can only be a good thing for retailers in the area.”

Matt Powell, Business Growth Manager at CPR Regeneration, who works closely with local retailers and other businesses in the area, said: “Being part of the pilot scheme will give businesses in Camborne the chance to see how the card will work and the benefits it can bring.

“Being part of the scheme can be flexible and retailers can adapt their offers to trading conditions. I’m positive that at the end of the trial period businesses will be able to notice the positive impact the Loyalty Card initiative has had on their business.“

Mark Barnes, My Card Manager at the Civic Trust, said: “The Loyalty Card is a really exciting project for the area and will deliver many benefits to the local community. As well as encouraging people to shop locally, the Loyalty Card will raise money for local charities.“

Mark added: “Being among the first areas of the country to launch the Loyalty Card scheme, Camborne, Pool and Redruth will really be put on the map.”
