The economic downturn has claimed another victim in Cornwall with Goonhavern-based John Nicholls Builders going into administration with the loss of 80 jobs.
Dave Nicholls, MD of the family-run business which was founded in 1962, blamed the current economic conditions for a slump in building work.

He said: “This has been brought about, in the first instance towards the end of last year, by a sudden drop in the workload. We had clients who had future works for us to follow through and, due to their funders not wishing to fund those further contracts, where we should have been going into another £5m-worth of work, that’s suddenly stopped.”

Last week Portreath-based communications company Microcomms had to call in the liquidators with the loss of 20 jobs.
