The Great Cornish Food project today launched an all-new range of awards to celebrate the county’s top standard bearers in food, drink, farming and fishing.
The awards evening has been set for Thursday February 6 at Nancarrow Farm near Truro.
Ruth Huxley, MD of the Great Cornish Food Store and founder of industry body Cornwall Food & Drink, said: “With this exciting new event we aim to shine a light on those who excel in ways that really matter.
“The Great Cornish Food Awards are designed to recognise our food and drink champions right across this vital sector from the River Tamar to the Isles of Scilly – and we want to share the secrets of their success.
“Nancarrow is the perfect setting as it is a long-established Cornish family farm with a fine reputation for producing great food.”
There will be eight awards in total. Closing date for entries is Friday November 1, with the finalists due to be announced on Monday December 2.
Three of the awards, Fishing for the Future, Farming for the Future and Food for the Future, all reflect the positive roles the industries play in Cornwall and in a changing world and climate.
Raising the Bar will recognise an organisation that has explored and implemented an idea or concept that is raising its business to a new level and setting a higher bar to inspire others.
Growing People will recognise a food, drink, fishing or farming organisation that can demonstrate the positive impact a people-first philosophy can have on business success and reputation.
Making a Mark will celebrate a food, drink, fishing or farming organisation that has helped put the food and drink of Cornwall and/or the Isles of Scilly firmly on the map.
In It Together will champion a food, drink, fishing or farming organisation that can demonstrate the benefits generated by a collaborative approach to business.
The final award will be Winner of Winners, a prestigious accolade recognising an organisation with stand-out qualities – a beacon of success that showcases everything that makes Cornish and Scillonian food and drink genuinely great.
Huxley added: “We are here to help entrants to the awards by offering guidance to improve the odds for all types and sizes of organisations. After the event takes place we will help all the winners to make the most of their success.”
The Great Cornish Food project is delivered by the team behind the award-winning Great Cornish Food Store in Truro and has been made possible through the Strategic Sector Development fund for Agrifood within the Good Growth programme, which is managed by Cornwall Council and funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
