Spaceport Cornwall has received its Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG) ‘Educational Project of the Year’ award, in recognition of the Story of a Satellite Exhibition held at Newquay Airport Cornwall last summer.
The Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG) works to promote innovation in the satellite communication industry.
Each year, some of the largest organisations within the industry come together at SIG’s annual workshops to discuss innovation and the current challenges facing the satellite industry.
Spaceport Cornwall was nominated for the annual SIG award by SIG advisory board member, Martin Coleman, who felt that the effort put into the exhibit, and the positive effect it had on visiting families, children and students deserved recognition.
The award was originally accepted back in March by Coleman on Spaceport Cornwall’s behalf at a SIG workshop in Florida, and recently presented to the team here in the UK by Coleman himself.
He explained: “The Educational Project of the Year Award is vitally important. Without engaged students, the future of the satcoms industry will grind to a halt. Spaceport Cornwall has received this award for its innovative approach in engaging students of all ages in space, building a solid future for the industry.”
