Any business based in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly can enter one or more of 14 award categories, which include Best New Business in Cornwall, Young Business Person of the Year, and Best Family Business.

The awards are organised and presented by Cornwall Development Company (CDC), in partnership with Business Cornwall magazine and Cornwall Chamber of Commerce. The awards presentation has become one of the most high profile events in the local business calendar, and 350 business leaders are expected to attend the gala dinner at St Mellion International Resort on May 15.

CDC’s Nick Blandford said: “This will mark the ninth year of the Cornwall Business Awards. Every year we are excited and impressed to see the terrific quality of businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

“These awards are a brilliant opportunity for local businesses to showcase their success. We have already received some excellent entries for 2014 and want to encourage more companies to enter before the closing date on March 16.”

The special guest speaker at this year’s awards will be Gerald Ratner, whose story is legendary in business circles. After building and then losing a jewellery empire which once boasted 2,500 stores, Ratner now runs a successful online jewellery business.

He said: “The Cornwall Business Awards are a great event and a wonderful opportunity for businesses to shine. I would urge businesses of all sizes and types to enter.”

A full list of the award categories and criteria, and an online entry form, are available now at www.cornwallbusinessawards.co.uk and entries must be submitted by midnight on March 16.
