The MD of Brian Etherington Meat Co was crowned Cornish Business Leader of the Year at the 2013 Hub Awards last night.
Mark Etherington received the award in front of 120 fellow Cornish business people at the Alverton in Truro.
Judges praised Etherington for creating and crafting an exciting new vision for the Scorrier-based family business, including the launch of a new butchery training academy and a new retail store at the end of last year.
The highly-contested Cornish Business of the Year was scooped by St Ives-based Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects.
Judges commended the company for transforming itself from a traditional business to one that is ready to face the future at the same time as maintaining its Cornish roots.
The Best Business Start Up gong went to the Cornwall Camper Company in St Austell, while OUTFIT Cornwall scooped the Best Use of Digital category.
The Creative Project of the Year award was given to Design Shack, Event Heads and the Voice Group for their collaborative work on the Looe Music Festival, while Blue Flame’s Matt Dennison was named Employee of the Year.
Amy Weeks, one of the Hub’s volunteer committee members, said: “The Hub Awards has grown to be one of the most well-regarded business awards on the Cornish calendar.
“The event always aims to showcase some of the most creative and dynamic Cornish business talent and this year was no exception.”
