Any business based in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly can enter one or more of 14 award categories, which include Best New Business in Cornwall and Best Use of Superfast Broadband. A new Award Category this year is Best Family Business.

Nick Blandford of Cornwall Development Company, which organises and presents the event, said: “The Cornwall Business Awards is now in its eighth year and every time we are excited to see the terrific quality of businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We already have some really inspiring entries for this year.”

Around 350 business leaders are expected to attend the awards dinner at St Mellion International Resort on May 16.

For the 2013 Awards, some of the earlier winners will be joining the judging panel. This includes Rachel Jones (Fit ‘N’ Fun Kids), Lucy Jewson (Frugi) Angus Clark (TJ International) and Sarah Trethowan (TRAC Services).

Sarah Trethowan said: “The Cornwall Business Awards are relevant for all kinds of business, of every size and in every sector. We are looking forward to seeing entries that highlight the extraordinary diversity and talent in today’s Cornish business community.

“We are particularly keen to see entries from businesses which have never entered an awards competition before and we hope that the new category ‘Best Family Business’ will attract some of the well established businesses that make up the backbone of the Cornish business community.”
