Pirate FM has been declared part of the UK’s best company to work for, for the second year in a row.

The radio station is part of UKRD group, which grabbed the #1 spot in the top hundred list, revealed by The Sunday Times this weekend.

Independent inspectors have spent the last few months scrutinising bosses and staff at its base in Redruth along with its 15 sister stations across the UK.

Pirate MD Beverley Warne said: “This is an immense achievement for Pirate FM and for Cornwall. We work hard to deliver results for our clients and produce memorable and entertaining programming for our listeners.

“I’m proud of the team that deliver this day in, day out.”

Among the staff-focused initiatives introduced at Pirate FM and UKRD is a “cuddling budget” for each member of staff to pay for ‘thank yous’ and ‘get togethers’ from days at the races or rugby to bottles of champagne.

And this year on-air members of staff have had their working hours reduced – but without reducing pay – in order to improve work/life balance. Teams are encouraged to offer their ideas and opinions on the way the business is run.
