Tony Pawlyn with award

National Maritime Museum Cornwall trustee Tony Pawlyn has been honoured by the South West Maritime History Society.

Pawlyn was given an award in recognition of his services to maritime history research and in particular his work in running the Bartlett Library at the Maritime Museum.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, the Bartlett Library houses a diverse collection of maritime reference books, periodicals and archive material for public consultation and reference.

Pawlyn, who comes from a line of Cornish fishermen, mariners, ship-owners and fish-merchants, said: “I feel very honoured to receive this award. You don’t carry out voluntary work for tangible reward, but it is very satisfying to learn that your efforts are appreciated. This award also marks the day to day work of my dedicated team of volunteers here at Falmouth in the Bartlett Library.”
