Paul Bateman and Laurence Osborne accept the award from Ann Skippers and the BBC’s Justin Webb

A Cornish planning and architectural design business has been named Small Planning Consultancy of the Year by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

Laurence Associates, based in Lemon Street, Truro, overcame rival firms from throughout the UK to win the award, the highest professional accolade available to this type of business, which recognises all planning consultancies with ten chartered town planners or less.

Directors Paul Bateman and Laurence Osborne collected the award from the RTPI’s president, Ann Skippers, and the BBC Radio’s host of the Today programme, Justin Webb, at the Hilton Park Lane.

Commercial director Paul Bateman commented: “For us, making the shortlist of the professional institute’s awards was an achievement in its own right, but to actually be awarded the title of Small Consultancy of the Year surpassed all expectations.

“It is a testament to the staff of the business that the RTPI has recognised our dedication to the delivery of sustainable development, and resilience to the impact of climate change.”
