Businesses in Cornwall are being urged to celebrate the enterprise, innovation and environmental performance of manufacturers in the south west by entering the newly-launched EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

The awards aim particularly to recognise those among the 12,000 manufacturing businesses in the south west that are successfully seizing the opportunities presented by the fast growing market for low carbon products and services.

Clive Turner, south west region external affairs advisor for EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, said: “With the services economy in disarray, it’s time for the manufacturing industry to get the recognition it deserves as the true engine of economic growth and a hot bed of innovative thinking.

“These awards will demonstrate the incredible diversity of our manufacturing sector and its remarkable capacity to innovate in the face of significant global challenges. We have a manufacturing industry to be proud of – and these awards will help us celebrate its achievements.”

The awards have received the backing of Lord Peter Mandelson, the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform, who commented: “These awards give important recognition to the value that innovative manufacturing businesses contribute to our economy, and we are working with EEF and other industry bodies to help build the UK’s manufacturing future.”

The EEF Future Manufacturing Awards will recognise outstanding achievement in three key areas – Innovation, Environment and Enterprise. Entry forms and a full list of categories are available on the awards website. Entries close at the end of July.
