Twenty six finalists representing the gold standard of Cornish business will be holding their breath tonight as the illustrious Cornwall Business Awards are presented.

Three hundred of the county’s business elite will pack St Mellion International Hotel, Golf & Country Club – all eager to see who scoops which prize.

A total of 15 awards will be presented, including the coveted Winner of Winners award, carrying with it the title of Cornwall’s Business of the Year.

Among the hopefuls will be former Award winner Perfect Example, a Wadebridge-based property management firm hoping to win the Best Diversification award for its innovative new “holiday concierge” service.

Co-owner Scott Fairhurst commented: “We are delighted that Perfect Example has been shortlisted.  After winning the Best New Business category in 2007, our business has grown significantly and we really look forward to the awards ceremony in May.”

The evening will also feature a keynote speech by jewellery tycoon Gerald Ratner, who will offer hard-won tips from his own turbulent career.

Now in its fourth year, the awards programme is run by the Cornwall Development Company in partnership with the South West of England Regional Development Agency and Business Link to encourage diverse and progressive business growth in the county.

Nick Blandford of the Cornwall Development Company said: “Over the last year these businesses have proven themselves innovative and genuinely exciting. The standard is incredibly high, so simply being shortlisted is a tremendous achievement.

“These fantastic finalists prove that Cornwall is indeed a haven for truly world-class business talent.”

A full list of winners will be available on this website first thing tomorrow.
