Cornwall’s Visitor Attraction of the Year has just been named the South West’s Large Attraction of the Year at the South West Tourism Excellence Award.

The awards ceremony, held last night at the Cadbury House Hotel and Spa in Somerset, celebrates the best in the South West and aims to promote and reward the very best in the tourism industry.

Tamsin Loveless, Head of Communications, and Loraine Long, Visitor Services Manager, collect the Large Attraction of the Year Award on behalf of the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.

Museum Director Jonathan Griffin said: “After having our busiest summer ever I said that winning Gold at the Cornwall Tourism Awards was the icing on the cake, so this must be the cherry on top!  Everyone at the Museum is so passionate and committed that it really is wonderful to see all our hard work being rewarded.”

Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of South West Tourism, added: “The winners of this year’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards are truly deserving of this accolade. Not only have they ensured their physical product is of the highest standard, but in what is essentially a ‘people industry’ they have ensured that their customer service and staff training are exemplary.”

The Maritime Museum now goes on to represent the South West region at the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence in April 2009.
