Nick Bailey has been appointed chief executive officer of Healthwatch Cornwall.
With a background of senior roles in education and health that have included working as national manager for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities for England, Bailey returned to Cornwall in 2018 because, he says, “quality of life trumps salary”.
Since then, he has worked for Treviglas Community College in Newquay, Cornwall Council and the Council for the Isles of Scilly as the supported internship coordinator and for the University of Plymouth as business engagement manager. In the latter post, he was working with Cornish businesses on the development of e-health innovations to improve health and care in Cornwall.
Healthwatch Cornwall ensures that local voices are heard when it comes to individual experiences of health, dental and social care services. As an independent Community Interest Company (CIC), it is one of 150 local Healthwatch organisations across the country that have the power to make sure NHS leaders and other decision makers listen to feedback and improve standards of care.
“I’m very proud to be leading Healthwatch Cornwall at a time when it has never been more important to hear what people have to say about local services,” said Bailey.
“As Cornwall’s health and social care impartial watchdog, we encourage anyone using GPs and hospitals, dentists, pharmacies, care homes or other related services to get in touch with their views – good or bad.
“We all want health and social care provision to be as good as it possibly can be.
“My job is to help make that happen.”
