Ten years on from completing a work-experience week with Falmouth solicitors, Hine Downing, Lianne Costin has worked and trained her way through with the firm to become a fully qualified family law solicitor.

Costin has taken on almost every role at Hine Downing, from PA to legal assistant and chartered legal executive and now she is celebrating reaching the peak of her legal ambitions.

Mike Wilson – an expert in family law for almost 40 years before his retirement last year – trained her in family and children law throughout her long apprenticeship and encouraged her to qualify as a solicitor – another four years involving part time attendance at the University of the West of England in Bristol.

Costin said: “I wouldn’t say this was an easy route to qualification. Working full time and studying intensively at the same time is hard, but from that first week of work experience I was absolutely fascinated by family law and knew that was where I wanted to be.

“Hine Downing has been incredibly supportive throughout the eight years I have been employed with them and I am so grateful to Mike and the partners for helping me to achieve my goals.”
