Sam Norman gets to grips with working on the Queen of Falmouth

Following a successful trial, a young man from Falmouth is celebrating after being taken on as an apprentice shipwright with one of the area’s leading ferry companies.

Sam Norman, 20, has been offered an apprenticeship with Cornwall Ferries, which operates the St Mawes Ferry, Place Ferry and Park and Float.

Norman initially joined the company in January under the Events for All project.

The scheme, run by the Cornwall Marine Network, aims to help unemployed young people get into work in the marine sector.

Garrick Royle from Cornwall Ferries said: “We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to employ Sam and give him a full time position with good future prospects within our company.

“Since joining in January he has proved to be a hard worker and a quick learner and he has the ability to become a great part of our close-knit team.”
