Next week, a delegation from Cornwall will travel to London to exhibit at Resourcing Tomorrow – Europe’s largest and most influential mining event – to showcase the region’s expertise in exploration and extraction.
Placing a spotlight on Cornwall’s mining industry, which is playing a pivotal role in super-charging the UK’s green energy transition, Resourcing Tomorrow provides a significant opportunity for some of the region’s leading mining businesses to attract funding, secure investment, and develop connections with an international audience spanning more than 100 countries.
In collaboration with Cornwall Mining Alliance and the University of Exeter, Cornwall Trade and Investment are leading the delegation of around 30 representatives, which includes delegates from Cornish Tin, Imerys British Lithium, Cornish Lithium, Cornish Metals, Cornwall Resources, and Tungsten West.
Attendance at the event will involve a ‘Cornwall Pavilion’ – a dedicated exhibition space to raise the profile of Cornwall’s mining exploration companies. Across three days businesses will have the opportunity to network with investors, policymakers, and government representation from across the globe – including Europe, USA and the UAE. They will also be able to schedule strategic meetings, and take part in a pitch battle competition. The businesses in attendance will also feature on specialist panels throughout the event.
Commenting on the region’s involvement, Cllr Louis Gardener, Portfolio Holder for the Economy, Cornwall Council says: “’With a rich history in mining, Cornwall is set to play a crucial role in the responsible exploration and extraction of the metals required to power the future. Cornwall is leveraging UK Shared Prosperity Funding to support Cornwall’s attendance at Resourcing Tomorrow, which represents a huge opportunity for the region. We’re excited to showcase Cornwall’s expertise, and highlight the scale of opportunities presented, on a global stage’
On December 2nd, ahead of the main event, Cornwall has secured two places at an international Government Roundtable, where international delegations will gather to discuss how governments, the mining industry, and financial institutions can collaborate towards meeting the urgency of energy transition timelines. Cornwall’s attendance, alongside national and international government, shows the important role that mining within the region has to play in the green energy transition.
Rowan Thorne, Senior Geologist, Cornwall Resources Ltd, who will be attending the Roundtable event for the region, added: “There is enormous potential for new discoveries in Cornwall. Exploration hasn’t been undertaken for over 40 years, suggesting that with the application of novel techniques and renewed geological understanding of the region, there is the opportunity to identify new critical mineral deposits. We’re excited to be part of such a large delegation from Cornwall – showcasing a breadth of potential to a global audience.”
