Flotsam Flo in Redruth has been named as one of the nation’s 100 most impressive small firms by the Small Business Saturday UK campaign.

Flotsam Flo, founded by Kate Doran in 2021, focuses on sustainability by transforming plastic waste that is difficult to recycle—such as broken wetsuits, inflatables, life jackets, and redundant marketing banners—into vibrant, one-of-a-kind bags and accessories.

Handmade in Cornwall, each piece not only helps reduce waste but also promotes eco-friendly living by repurposing materials that might otherwise be discarded.

Following a nationwide search, the Cornish firm has been selected as part of this year’s SmallBiz100 line-up, which showcases 100 of the most impressive independent businesses from across the nation as part of the countdown to Small Business Saturday on December 7.

“I am incredibly honoured that Flotsam Flo has been recognised as part of this year’s SmallBiz100,” said Doran.

“This recognition not only celebrates our efforts to reduce plastic waste but also highlights the power of small businesses to drive positive change. I hope it inspires others to see the beauty in sustainability and the impact we can make.”
