The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub has launched two specialist packages for local businesses to help with trading in Europe and to improve the procurement and bid writing skills of local businesses, particularly in relation to public sector contracts.
The first of these packages is designed to help businesses importing and exporting to the EU. They will be able to access packages of advice to help them adapt to the changes that came into effect following UK withdrawal from the EU.
Rebecca Loto, business connector for the Growth Hub, said: “The consultancy can help SMEs look at challenges with taxation VAT, employment, import and export regulation and with changes to their supply chain.”
These packages of up to £2.5k worth of consultancy and intensive support are available with accountancy firm Azets UK.
The second package on offer addresses the Government ambition to help SMEs access public sector procurement directly or via the supply chain. The aim is to have at least £1 in every £3 spent with smaller businesses. Cornwall has over 25,000 SMEs who could benefit from accessing public sector contracts, which would make a significant contribution to the local economy.
Loto added: “SMEs are often put off bidding for local and central government contracts, even though they may well be able to fulfil the requirements. They can now benefit from guidance on how complete the paperwork and advice on ways to be successful.”
The support can also offer advice and guidance on bid writing to help SMEs access financial and other opportunities they may otherwise miss out on.
Full Circle and In-Tend on behalf of the Growth Hub will provide packages of advice on procurement and bid writing best practice up to the value of £1k.
