The Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) is looking for new directors.

The BID team is now taking initial expressions of interest from members who wish to get more involved with the not-for-profit organisation by becoming a voluntary director or to form part of an independent working group (if numbers allow).

Expression of interest forms have been distributed digitally to all who previously showed interest throughout the ballot period last December.

The team would be particularly interested in hearing from those who have a specific skillset (such as legal training, HR, finance or project management), along with strategic experience or knowledge that they can bring to board level to ensure Newquay BID continues to meet future aims.

Although these are voluntary positions and non-executive board directors do not receive financial recompense for their contribution, they help oversee the strategic direction of Newquay BID making sure objectives are met and the organisation is both effective and fair.

Jonathan Start (pictured), partner at Start & Co, has been a voluntary Newquay BID board director for the past two years. He said: “I’ve been involved in some capacity in Newquay BID since the offset. Having lived and worked in Newquay all my life, I feel it is important for me to be involved in some of the decisions that directly affect the business community as well as the wider community.

“The current board of directors all have brilliant successful businesses in the resort and this reinforces our positions as we naturally want to improve the environment that we trade in.

“We also have a solid understanding of the challenges, as well as the benefits that come with running a business here in Newquay, and Cornwall more generally. In addition, we recognise that the investment put into the BID is only going to add value to the town, our home so it’s a win, win. For this reason, I firmly believe in the BID and we’re now looking for more business owners with this critical expertise and insight who share this sentiment to quite literally jump on board.”

Those interested in becoming a Newquay BID board director should email info@newquaybid.co.uk for more information and to request the Expression of Interest form or call 07487 590966 for an informal chat.
