As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce (CCoC) has announced the upcoming launch of its ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace Policy’.

Designed to help Cornish business owners and managers ensure the health and wellbeing of themselves and staff, the policy will provide best practice, guidance and signposting.

Chamber CEO, Kim Conchie, said: “Cornwall is home to some of the most incredible outdoor spaces in the world and given we are also huge ambassadors of the promotion of positive health and wellbeing, Mental Health Awareness Week feels a poignant time to introduce our upcoming ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace Policy’.

“Nobody should experience physical or mental ill health as a result of their employment or work environment and we have a duty of care to look after ourselves and those around us.

“Cornwall is leading the way on how people take pride and interact with their ‘Place’ as new work patterns and different health concerns emerge. Cornwall Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace Policy’ is a living, developing document on best practice for employers and their colleagues.”

Chamber Vice chair, Laura Whyte, has been creating the policy alongside the rest of the chamber team and several local wellbeing experts who will offer a collaborative partnership with the Chamber and its stakeholders moving forward.

Speaking about the importance of this project, Whyte said: “We have reached a critical time in the business community where we must put the health and wellbeing of our colleagues at the forefront of the businesses we own, run and work in. Cornwall Chamber is stepping up and highlighting what we believe is best practice, guidance and signposting so Cornish businesses can lead the way on wellbeing.’’

The Wellbeing in the Workplace Policy will be one of four policies formulated by Cornwall Chamber of Commerce to support the success of Cornwall’s businesses and to influence public policy. They are: Wellbeing in the Workplace; Construction; Renewable Energy; Digital Infrastructure. The official launch date will be announced soon.
