A Cornish tech firm has gained industry accreditation that will allow it to compete on the global stage after receiving support from a European funding programme.

Buzz Interactive, which is based in Newquay, has achieved ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management Accreditation.

The company, which develops websites, apps and games, already lists Tesco Mobile, Santander and Gain Capital among its clients.

Buzz Interactive’s project director, Lindsey Axten, said: “We’re all really pleased to have gained the accreditation.

“It was a big undertaking, so the support from BIG2 to help us engage consultants to be ready for the audit was invaluable.

“The team really benefited from going through the accreditation as it allowed us to hone our internal processes.

“We believe this will open doors for us as it will give national and international clients that additional confidence.”

Since achieving the accreditation Buzz is in talks with a global bank to develop a product.

BIG2 programme manager, Anna Staevska, added: “Buzz Interactive are leading the way for Cornish tech businesses on a global level and we are proud to have supported them achieve the accreditation.

“Lindsey and the team have in-demand skills, so the fact that this accreditation will unlock new opportunities is brilliant.”

BIG 2 is delivered by Cornwall Development Company and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It aims to support 200 businesses in Cornwall with growth projects, and create 360 jobs by 2019.
