A number of Cornish firms have been listed in the latest edition of one of the legal profession’s most respected guides, the Legal 500.

For 29 years, the Legal 500 has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world, with a comprehensive research programme revised and updated every year to bring the most up-to-date vision of the global legal market.

As part of the application process, judges review the type and quality of work undertaken by firms as well as seeking references from their clients.

Murrell Associates has been included in the guide since 2010, which, according to MD, Hugh Murrell, is a testament to the quality of the advice that it delivers.

The firm is recognised for its corporate and commercial and intellectual property work, with the guide calling its team “exceptional, confident and knowledgeable”.

“We’re really pleased to be included in the guide again,” Murrell said. “Our aim is to give guidance and clarity to our clients while protecting their best interests and helping them overcome their commercial and legal challenges.”

The guide recommends Coodes Solicitors for advising individuals seeking compensation for injuries and medical negligence, and for handling contentious trusts and probate cases.

Chairman, Peter Lamble, said: “We are really proud that Coodes has been ranked in three sections of the Legal 500. This is a national guide that is extremely well respected so we are delighted to be listed alongside some of the UK’s top law firms.

“These recommendations are largely based on feedback from clients so the rankings reflect extremely well on our teams. We have been focused on growing our Personal Disputes, Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury to meet demand, so it is fantastic to have this recognition.”

Foot Anstey’s Truro office receives a number of mentions in a number of disciplines, among which are commercial litigation, banking and finance and employment.

The guide says the “very good” Foot Anstey provides “practical, supportive and prompt employment advice” on strategic and operational issues to regional, national and international clients.

Stephens Scown, which has offices in Exeter, St Austell and Truro, also receives a number of commendations in the Legal 500, with five teams now given tier 1 ranking, including, for the first time, its corporate team.

Its corporate team has been given tier 1 ranking for the first time. The team acts for a large number of local SMEs and owner managed businesses, as well as national and international clients. Major deals include acting for Strongbow Exploration in the purchase of the South Crofty tin mine in Cornwall.

Managing partner, Robert Camp, said: “Everyone at the firm, whether they are mentioned by name in the guide or not, puts in an exceptional effort. We are in a privileged position to be able to help and support clients at some of the most pivotal, and often stressful, periods of their lives. Everyone who works here shares a desire to fight for the very best outcome for our clients. It is great to have that effort recognised with this independent endorsement.”
