The awards recognise businesses that go the extra mile to boost the local economy, celebrating businesses that produce or serve outstanding food and drink and are leaders in quality, marketing, developing their people and customer care.

Ruth Huxley, director of Cornwall Food & Drink, said: “There is such a buzz about Cornish food and drink, both locally and way beyond the Tamar; it’s absolutely crucial that we find a way of celebrating the exemplars in a credible way.

“We’ve had terrific support that has enabled us to do just that, and our panel of judges includes top UK journalists, tourism and branding experts, economists and business leaders, who are all set to apply some critical rigour to their task.”

The nine awards include new categories designed to acknowledge changes in the food and drink industry, such as the On the Go Award, which recognises the mobile, pop-up and takeaway options offering everything from exotic flavours to the not-so-humble pasty.

Other new awards, the Breakthrough and Supply Chain categories, honour the new ideas, products, concepts and initiatives that are making step changes in the industry’s reputation and market reach.

The winners will be announced, along with a special award for the Great Cornish Food Ambassador of 2015, at a ceremony at the National Trust’s Trelissick House on September 21.
