The Cornish food and drink industry has excelled at the 2012 Great Taste Awards recently.

Pomona Street vinegars

Acclaimed designer-turned-chocolatière Nicky Grant stood out from over 8,000 entries to gain one of only 123 much coveted ‘three stars’ with her Fennel and Ginger filled chocolates.

In the same awards, Penryn-based gourmet wine vinegar merchant, Pomona Street, scooped two star ratings for its Merlot red wine vinegar and Semillon white wine vinegar varieties.

Wing of St Mawes also won a brace of gold awards through its online operation – thecornsihfishmonger.co.uk.

Among other Cornish winners were Lynher Dairies – producer of the famous Yarg cheese – Cornish Orchards, Crellow Preserves, Treleavens ice cream, Kernow Sausage Co and Callestick ice cream.

Cassandra Manning, who founded Pomona Street along with her father Mike, said: “We’ve been eagerly waiting for the results and are absolutely delighted with our awards.

“Cornwall is fast becoming a hub for interesting food enterprises and starting our business has exposed us to so many fantastic food producers that highlight our county’s creative nature.”

Sourced directly from a vineyard in the Dordogne region of France, the vinegars are bottled and labelled in Cornwall and are available to buy at a number of local delis.
