A social enterprise that aims to create opportunities for young people and adults has been named as Cornwall’s Smiliest Company.

The Real Ideas Organisation CIC (RIO), which works across Cornwall, Devon and the South West, won the inaugural competition set up by St Agnes-based denture clinic, Changing Faces Cornwall.

As a result of the win, 10 members of RIO were treated to a VIP trip to the Hall for Cornwall for a drinks reception and tickets to see stand-up comedy legend, Jimmy Carr.

RIO’s Sandy Meloy, who entered the organisation into the competition said: “We’re all so happy to have won the competition.

“We are a very smiley bunch so to be able to show that off and win a great prize courtesy of Changing Faces has made us beam even more!

“There’s a lot of negative news at the moment so I think the idea to get people smiling is really important.”

The competition was launched by Changing Faces Denture Clinic to highlight the positive aspects of working and running a business in Cornwall.

Businesses from across Cornwall were invited to upload a smiley picture to the competition’s Facebook page. Participants were then invited to encourage friends, family and colleagues to vote for their favourite image.

“Our strapline is ‘Making Cornwall Smile’ and with this in mind we wanted to do something that highlighted what a happy bunch of businesses and business people we have working in Cornwall – demonstrating how uplifting the confidence to smile really is,” said Changing Faces’ Martin Docking.

Finishing runner-ups were the team at Fifteen Cornwall, followed in third place by Children’s Hospice South West.

Other companies taking part included King Harry Ferry, Event Cornwall, Sea Communications, Pirate FM, Driftwood Spars and Alexander and Co.
