A specialist affordable homes provider is to appeal against Cornwall Council’s rejection of a scheme for 11 houses for local home-seekers in Connor Downs.

Truro-based THF Ltd remains confident that it will eventually secure approval for its scheme on a greenfield site adjacent to the existing Arundel Gardens residential development, and is highly critical of the council’s decision.

“We believe we have excellent grounds for appeal,” said director Paul Stephens. “The scheme was rejected even though the planning officer had recommended it for approval and concluded that it fully complied with the council’s adopted planning policies.

“The council’s affordable housing officer was also satisfied that there was a proven need for affordable homes here.

“Very regrettably, local people who have already had to wait many years for a home of their own in their own village must now wait longer still, and THF will seeking an order for costs against the council. One might reasonably ask what is the point of a council having officers if their advice is going to be ignored?”

THF is currently building at Mount Hawke near Truro and completed its first project, at Hayle, two years ago.
