In spite of the recession, Ginsters’ parent company Samworth Brothers has reported near-record sales.

Samworth Brothers saw turnover rise 5.2% in 2008 to ÂŁ597 million, with pre-tax profits slightly up on the previous 12 months to ÂŁ42 million.

The company reported that margins were squeezed in the second half of the year by the high price of raw materials, compounded by an increase in fuel and distribution costs. But it said it was hiring more staff to meet demand, as well as commissioning two new production facilities.
