Social landlord Coastline Housing and Cornwall County Fire Brigade have struck up a partnership to improve fire safety awareness across Coastline’s 3,500 homes.

As part of the new partnership, Cornwall County Fire Brigade will be carrying out free home fire safety checks in around 700 Coastline homes which have been identified by the landlord as being able to benefit from this scheme. These properties are homes which, at present, have no smoke detectors installed in them, and hence are high priority homes for this work.

The Brigade will also be training eight key members of staff at Coastline to bring them up to speed on how to carry out their own home fire safety checks and fit smoke detectors. In addition, the Brigade has offered free training to a wider group of Coastline employees on general fire safety awareness.

Simon Parrott, senior neighbourhood surveyor at Coastline, said: “We welcome this opportunity to work in partnership with Cornwall County Fire Brigade to reduce the risk of fires, fire deaths and fire injuries. Initiatives such as this save lives and prevent the unnecessary destruction that fires can cause. Our frontline staff are all keen to undergo training and spread the fire safety word as they go about their day-to-day work. We hope this will make a real difference to helping our tenants improve their own fire safety awareness.”
